“How many photos will we actually get?” is one of the most common questions couples ask — and one of the hardest to answer with a single number, because it depends entirely on your coverage. Here’s an honest benchmark, why the count varies so much, and the thing that matters far more than any number.
Realistic numbers
There’s no fixed rule, but as a rough guide to edited, delivered images:
- A single wedding day (ceremony + a function or two): commonly ~300–600 edited images.
- A full multi-event Indian wedding (haldi, mehndi, sangeet, wedding, reception across days): often 800–1,500+ edited images.
- A single small event (engagement, naming ceremony): commonly ~100–300 edited images.
These are ballparks, not promises. What matters is that your photographer gives you an expected range for your specific coverage — ask for it in writing before booking (see our questions to ask guide).
Why the count varies so much
The number depends on:
- How many events and hours are covered
- The size of the wedding and number of guests/rituals
- How many photographers are shooting
- The photographer’s editing philosophy — some curate tightly, others deliver more
A three-day wedding with a second shooter will naturally yield far more than a single-afternoon ceremony. That’s why comparing raw numbers between different weddings is misleading.
Edited vs shot — an important distinction
Photographers shoot thousands of frames on a wedding day, then curate — removing blinks, duplicates, missed focus and test shots — to deliver a strong, cohesive gallery. The delivered count is the edited selection, not everything captured.
This curation is a feature, not a shortcoming. A tight, beautiful gallery of finished images is far more valuable than an overwhelming dump of every frame, most of which you’d never use.
The question that matters more than “how many”
Focus less on the number and more on:
- Consistency — is the whole gallery strong, not just the highlights?
- Editing quality — colour, retouching and a cohesive look (see wedding photography styles).

What about RAW / unedited files?
Most studios don’t hand over raw files. Unedited images aren’t representative of the finished work, and the edit — colour grading and retouching — is part of the craft you’re paying for. Some may offer culled unedited images by arrangement; if it matters to you, ask about their policy upfront.
